We have 5 new computer carts that were delivered to Ohlone last week, each containing 26 Cromebooks. This gives us a total of 9 computer carts, 6 Cromebook and 3 Apple carts.

California has adopted the Common Core, rigorous academic standards in mathematics and language arts, which support academic knowledge, critical thinking, problem solving, communication, analytical writing and collaboration. The goal of the common core is to provide guidance as to the content and skills our children need to be prepared for the challenges in their future.

A Little Bit About Writing Workshop

Writing has become an increasingly important skill in this technological world as our children are now asked to synthesize, organize, reflect on, compare, and contrast information and ideas that surround us. In recognition of the need for all students to develop strong writing skills, the new Common Core Standards has elevated writing to the same level of importance as reading instruction. And school districts (including PAUSD) are now focusing more on the teaching of quality writing in our schools.

I know that you have heard many times how important it is to read to your child.  One of the best predictors of a student’s later reading comprehension is how much he or she has been read to. When we think about that, it makes sense. Children who hear many, many stories full of rich images and vocabulary, store much of that language away in their heads. They then have all of those stored ideas and images to bring to new books and stories.
